Telangana has launched a state-run program that converts fly ash waste from thermal power plants into durable bricks for public housing. These bricks are lighter, heat resistant, and more sustainable than traditional clay bricks. The pilot project in Nalgonda district produced 1 million bricks, used in constructing homes for below-poverty-line families. Each house emits 20% less carbon during construction and requires less plastering. The program promotes circular economy practices and is expected to scale statewide with private contractor involvement.
